There are difficult contractors and there are very difficult contractors. There are still many contractors who are keen to do a good job for a fair price, but they may be difficult to deal with. It must be remembered that the same result will be achieved irrespective of the behaviour of the contractor provided firm steps are taken to enforce the terms of the contract and only to certify work properly carried out. One can summarise how to deal with difficult contractors by saying that the most important thing is that a person must make clear from the beginning that, although he/she is obviously prepared to listen to any questions or suggestions that the contractor may have, he/she is not prepared to tolerate nonsense.
