Station Efficiency Reduces Greenhouse Gas Emissions
This article begins by providing a brief overview of global warming, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and government‐initiated analyses and legislation that supports or requires reductions in GHG emissions and increases in energy efficiency. The focus of the article is on how emissions reductions affects the wastewater industry. Sources of GHG emissions in the wastewater industry are explored, along with reasons for losses in pump efficiency, solutions to increase pump efficiency and reduce electricity use and GHG emissions, and advances in flow and efficiency monitoring technology. Sidebars are provided on topics that include: Common Causes of Centrifugal Pump Efficiency Loss; and, State and Regional Entities Taking Steps to Reduce and Regulate Greenhouse Gas Emissions.
