Short‐Term Bioassays for Environmental Mutagens and Carcinogens
Because an estimated 80 to 90 percent of all human cancers can be traced to environmental causes, including hazardous compounds in drinking water, tests for measuring the effects of the pure compounds and complex mixtures in question are badly needed. The various short‐term bioassays discussed here go a long way toward meeting this need.
