Although public acceptance of environmental problems is not so commonplace as public awareness, it is crucial to the successful implementation of environmental programs. Two case histories of planning studies emphasize the necessity of involving the public through communication, education, and preparation efforts. The key to the success of these programs is that they were planned at the local government level and were effective in nurturing public acceptance.
