Polymer Flocculation Kinetics of Dilute Colloidal Suspensions
It is desirable to obtain the complete size distribution of a flocculating suspension to evaluate coagulation and flocculation parameters, such as mixing intensity, mixing time, and coagulant or flocculant dose. In recent years, methods have been developed that permit the direct determination of particle size distributions, in the range 1‐1,000 µ, by means of electronic particle counting techniques. This study modified these techniques for sizing polystyrene latex suspensions at various stages in a flocculation process when either organic polyelectrolytes or inorganic salts are used as coagulants.
