A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
UHPC in the US Highway Infrastructure
The use of UHPC in the highway system is progressing in the US, just as it is around the world. Three states have deployed UHPC in their infrastructures, and other states are working toward this milestone. This chapter provides an overview of the current status of the UHPC implementation effort in the US highway system, including both research and deployment efforts. Each of the four bridges open to traffic is discussed. The wide range of fundamental and applied structural behavior research ongoing at Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is also presented. UHPC's unique properties have allowed for the development of a new modular bridge component, known as the n‐girder. A second focal point of FHWA's UHPC program has been the development of a bridge redecking system consisting of modular precast UHPC components.
