A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
One Piece of the Workforce Puzzle: Internship Programs
This article highlights the AWWA Internship Subcommittee, created by the AWWA Management Division's Workforce Strategies Committee to help water agencies and supporting firms create and sustain internship programs designed to attract young people to the industry and retain them for the long term. The Internship Subcommittee conducted 13 interviews with representatives of 11 organizations, all with some involvement in internship programs. Ten of the 11 organizations were involved in the water industry. This article describes the tools those interviews identified as necessary for establishing and sustaining effective internship programs.
