Enhancing Public Awareness of Drinking Water Quality
This article discusses ongoing efforts by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) to increase public awareness of drinking water quality. The USEPA's Drinking Water Strategy calls for increased data‐sharing between states and the USEPA, which will enable the public to learn more about water quality and the performance of its water systems. Similarly, the USEPA's retrospective review of the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) rule will identify opportunities to reduce the burden on community water systems and to provide greater awareness of water quality for every person served by these systems. In both initiatives, water utilities play a significant role as USEPA strives to ensure that the essential information such as monitoring data is effectively communicated to the public.
