A training course in water distribution has been prepared under the supervision of AWWA Committee 4260 M‐Education. The document is being published in installments (April 1961 issue, p. 458), and will afterwards be made available as a separate volume. This article presents Chapter 3, Pumping Stations, Pumps, and Appurtenances, and covers the following topics: location of pumping stations; architectural treatment of pumping stations; sources of power; energy used in pumping; types and classifications of pumps; capacity and selection of pumps; prime movers and controls; installation and testing of pumps; and, operation checks and controls.
