Determining the Fractured Reservoir Classification and, Therefore, Which Simulation Style Is Most Appropriate
The Fractured Reservoir Classification appears to discriminate between fracture reservoirs by the degree of displacement of the curves to the lower‐right quadrant. Another way the Fractured Reservoir Classification impacts Static Conceptual Fracture Model modeling is in the most appropriate type of reservoir simulation to be applied. There are three basic styles of simulation that can and are used in simulation of fractured reservoirs. These include Single Porosity, Dual Porosity, and Dual Porosity‐Dual Permeability simulations. With time and additional reservoir and flow data, the more appropriate and complex modeling styles are attempted to better constrain the reservoir. Therefore, if people can classify the fractured reservoir type that they are going to model, it will tell them how to predict production problems, the most important modeling parameters, production inhomogeneity, proper simulation style, possible rates, reserves and recovery factor.
