A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
In 1982, Autodesk was among the first companies to offer computer‐aided design (CAD) software. Computers were still a novelty, and the HOK San Francisco computer room had a large glass viewing window where the company took clients during tours of the office. HOK DRAW was so successful that HOK began to sell the program to other architects. HOK created a new version of DRAW for the emerging Windows operating system in 1993 called DrawVision. Today, the website has become a virtual HOK front door, and the intranet is packed with information to help employees do their jobs. And each type of firm used software designed for its own needs, such as CAD programs for architects and scheduling programs for contractors. This chapter advises to digitize historic hard copy assets so they are easily accessible, and preserve the firm's history.
