Assessing Ozonation Research Needs in Water Treatment
Numerous utilities are considering the adoption of ozone as an alternative oxidant and disinfectant to chlorine. This article reviews the chemistry and applications of ozone in drinking water treatment and evaluates the important issues that still need to be addressed by research. Subjects discussed include organic and inorganic by‐products, disinfection with ozone, biological treatment, the use of ozone as a coagulant aid, and multistage ozonation.
