Levels of Chlorinated Paraffins in Water
Wastewater treatment plant influents, effluents, and river water samples were analyzed for chlorinated paraffins (CPs). CPs were not detected in river water samples, in effluents, and in filtered influents by using gas chromatography electron capture negative ion mass spectrometry (GC‐ECNI‐MS) (LOQ = 100 ng/L). However, middle chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs) were frequently present in suspended solid matter from influents while short chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs) were detected only in 2 of 15 samples. Concentrations of SCCPs and MCCPs measured by GC‐ECNI‐MS varied between n.d. and 4600 ng/L adsorbed on suspended solid matter.
