This article provides demographic statistics of the Baby Boomer generation and discusses the effect their retirement from the workforce will have on the water industry. The article stresses the importance of developing a future generation of industry leadership, and mentions the dedication of the members of the AWWA Young Professionals Committee to the water industry. The article mentions a report published by the Awwa Research Foundation titled, “Succession Planning for a Vital Workforce in the Information Age”, written by Myron A. Olstein, which assesses the current workforce demographics for the water and wastewater industry and provides guidance on creating a succession strategy.
