Sediment Movement and Deposition Patterns in Illinois Impounding Reservoirs
This study demonstrates a pattern of consistency governing the movement of sediment‐laden water into and through reservoirs in Illinois. The pattern revealed by several earlier studies seems to explain the distribution of sediment within a reservoir, the physical nature of the sediment, and the general chemical character of the sediment. This pattern is broadly supported by 85 reservoir surveys in Illinois and by detailed observations of Lake Decatur over a period of about 50 years.
