Structural Reliability Analysis Based on Linear Moments
Recently, other types of moments such as the linear moments (L‐moments), fractional moments, and probability weight moments have been applied in structural reliability. This chapter introduces structural reliability analysis based on the first few L‐moments. Following the definition of L‐moments of random variables, it first presents the x–u and u–x transformations based on the first few L‐moments and correlation coefficient matrix of the basic random variables. Then, the chapter discusses structural reliability analysis method based on the first few L‐moments and correlation coefficient matrix. The computation procedure of first‐order reliability method using the first three L‐moments and correlation matrix is similar to that of first‐order third‐moment method in the third‐moment pseudo standard normal space. For a random variable, when the first four L‐moments are known, the u–x transformation can be realised using the third‐order polynomial transformation.
