Whole Life Value
Whole Life Value (WLV) is a systems approach to the discovery, representation, measurement and audit of the lifetime value of an asset to an organisation. Whereas value management and value engineering can be (and most commonly are) conducted as interventions in a project development process, WLV is a methodology relying on a systems approach to the delivery of the most appropriate facility and the evaluation of the facility over its defined lifespan. This chapter reviews the subject of whole life value as described in the literature and proposes a method of measurement resulting in a WLV factor conducive for use in option appraisal and benefits realisation. A step‐by‐step process is explained with reference to a case study.
