Fire Department Notification
The performance measure for fire department notification is the time duration between detection and notification of the fire department communication center. This chapter structures fire department notification methods into an analytical framework and illustrates ways of making estimates. Qualitative analyses after the first scenario are normally very rapid. Although detection and fire department notification are evaluated as separate components, the process is often continuous. An initial scenario on which to base qualitative analyses is usually related to how the building normally works. The information provided by an initial scenario analysis can be augmented with methodical examination of additional scenarios. The number and scope of additional conditions depend on the building and how it works. The analytical framework combined with the Interactive Performance Information (IPI) chart events and time durations enables one to get a mental picture of the way a building will respond to a fire.
