Essential Criteria for Selecting an Ultraviolet Disinfection System
This paper discusses the various available ultraviolet (UV) disinfection equipment elements, their pros and cons, and how they affect the installation, operation, performance, and maintenance of the overall UV system. The paper stresses that selecting the equipment is application‐specific and that the equipment elements must be considered collectively. The article discusses the six fundamental elements of a UV system and criteria for selecting the equipment that include: UV lamp technology; ballasts; UV reactor design; a cleaning system; a control system; and, a validation protocol.
