Nanotextiles in Civil and Geotechnical Engineering
The application of geosynthetics in the civil and geotechnical fields is increasing day by day due to their high strength, low cost, and easy‐to‐use characteristics. The inclusion of geosynthetics not only increases the load‐bearing capacity of soil but also improves the performance of civil and geotechnical constructions. Textiles play an important role in the civil and geotechnical engineering field as geotextiles are the most widely used geosynthetics. This chapter describes the composition and function of geotextiles in geotechnical engineering. Recent developments of geotextilesare highlighted with an emphasis on the application of nanotextiles in those developments. Smart/intelligent geotextiles and high‐performance geotextiles are also discussed. The present situation of these new geotextiles and their application in geotechnical engineering are summarized.
