Psychrometry and Air Conditioning
This chapter deals with properties of humid air and the use of the Psychrometric chart to determine them. It describes the principles of the different air‐conditioning processes and demonstrates the various calculations needed by air‐conditioning engineers. The prime objective of air conditioning is to provide and maintain the desired condition of the internal environment by supplying the air at the correct predetermined temperature, humidity, air purity, and air velocity for the comfort of occupants or for the correct operation of an industrial process or to maintain the quality and life of a stored product. To achieve the above goal, the air must undergo a series of psychrometric processes which may take any combination of the following six processes: sensible heating or sensible cooling, adiabatic mixing of two streams of air, moisture addition, dehumidification, fan and duct loads, and the room loads and room ratio line.
