Committee Report: Current Practice in Bacteriological Sampling
A survey of AWWA utility members indicated that there is great variability among sampling programs for microbiological monitoring of water distribution systems. This variability includes the number of samples collected, the use of check samples, the patterns of sample collection over the area of the distribution system and over time, and the sample collection and laboratory examination techniques. Since little research has been conducted on the various elements of a sampling program, there is as yet no basis for specifying the sampling procedures for an ideal bacteriological monitoring program.
