A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Specific Guidelines for Architects and Engineers
Designers, including architects, engineers, architectural engineers, and design consultants, are responsible for generating a design model, which serves as the base model for the design coordination process. This chapter provides specific guidelines for designers involved in design coordination and discusses the roles and responsibilities of the designer. It describes how the design team interfaces with virtual design and construction teams, and other project stakeholders, such as the general contractor, subcontractors, and owners. Designers have the role of ensuring that their design intent is maintained in a clash‐free and fabrication‐ready model. The designer's building information modeling (BIM) manager is responsible for updating the design model during the design and construction phase. The chapter presents a case study of a facility expansion project and describes the information required to integrate process information into BIM, by documenting practices of the constructability review process and the challenges of implementing this process in the design phase.
