Photocatalytic Water Disinfection
Water is an essential element for our daily life as it is directly related to the good health, food preparation, agriculture, and many process industries. However, providing a fresh drinking water is a challenging – for which billions of people are suffering from numerous water borne diseases, especially in the under developing areas. It is observed that the major health issues are due to the bacterial infections. Hence, effective and efficient technology is always in search. One of such technologies is photocatalytic based advanced oxidation process that uses ultraviolet or solar light for activation of the catalyst. In this chapter, a brief introduction of different photocatalytic processes including the various strategies for improving the process efficiency for water disinfection has been provided.
