Mark W. LeChevallier: 2015 A.P. Black Award Recipient
Mark W. LeChevallier is the 2015 recipient of AWWA's A.P. Black Research Award, which was established in 1967 in honor of Alvin Percy Black to recognize outstanding research contributions to water science and water supply rendered over an appreciable period of time.
As director of innovation and environmental stewardship at American Water in Voorhees, N.J., LeChevallier directs the company's research and environmental compliance programs. He also leads American Water's Innovation Development Process, which tests and develops new technologies and processes for use in the company and in the water industry. LeChevallier has received more than 20 awards, has held 14 volunteer positions at AWWA, has been an author or coauthor of more than 100 research papers, has served as a principal investigator or coinvestigator on 83 research grants, and has held numerous committee and leadership positions in other organizations.
A colleague noted LeChevallier has a “wonderful skill of being able to make complex scientifc concepts understandable. … It is his passion and knowledge that drives this talent. …” Journal AWWA spent time with LeChevallier to learn about his beginnings and continued growth in the water profession, to discuss his work at American Water, and to get his take on the current state and the future of the water industry.
