This article discusses an extension granted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) to confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs) to meet the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Standards (NPDES) to February 27, 2009. Additional time has also been granted for development and implementation of nutrient management plans (NMPs). The article also discusses the significant potential that animal feeding operations (AFOs) have for affecting watersheds.
