In‐person communication was a key part of the effort to restore HOK culture around the firm. Struggling offices did not have a buzz. They were unnaturally quiet for places where everyone was doing creative work. The more profitable HOK was, the more HOK stock rose in value, but it found that new employees did not understand how the stock worked or why they should invest. The author's 'Ask Me Anything' talks raised the level of understanding about how the profits related to stock valuation. HOK posted employee photos on the internal HOK website and included information about them. Soon marketers began to realize the value of placing the very best experts on teams when going after work, they began to include people from multiple offices in their proposals. Visit with employees in‐person if need to reclaim the company culture. To design a world class firm, regular, face‐to‐face communication acts as a key.
