A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Recreation has a variety of activities, such as swimming, fishing, boating, or golf. There are play areas for children and aspects having to do with wilderness. While many activities are diverse, the language is still the same, but with some modifications based on type of activity. Existing facilities and alterations follow the same requirements for barrier removal and proportional spending as other types of elements in places of public accommodation. If the facilities are public or a program of a public entity then items of non‐compliance are addressed as part of transition plans. There are some items, though, that are not specifically addressed in the ADA Standards. The Architectural Barriers Act for Federal facilities has scoping and technical requirements for access such as for beaches, camping, and trails in more rusticated areas. Consideration could be given to following ABA to provide access where no direction is delineated under ADAS.
