Front Garden House
This chapter presents the history and development process of front garden house. It then addresses changing trends in architecture and urban design of front garden house. While unusual in the urban and historical context of Paris, the Cité des Fleurs nevertheless represents a subtle and universally applicable design solution for the dense mixture of two principally different living forms: the large‐scale apartment building and the family home with garden. The Cité was – and still is – not only unique in the urban layout of Paris, but also home to an especially diverse assortment of residents. Compared with the Falkenried Terrassen in Hamburg‐Eppendorf, which has a similar urban configuration, there are two major differences: from an architectural point of view, the almost total homogeneity of the Terrassen's exterior finds itself in stark contrast to the diversity of the Cité's exterior.
