A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
An overview on the fundamentals of the New Austrian tunneling method (NATM) is given. The support elements such as shotcrete, reinforcement, steel sets and rock bolts and anchors respectively are explained. The sequence of excavation and the point in time of installation as well as the extent of required support are combined in support classes. The importance and type of advancing support like spiles, forepoling, jet grouting, ground freezing and grouting is discussed.
Under‐tunneling of the Stuttgart airport is an adequate case study at the end of the chapter.
