This article describes AWWA's Taste and Odor Committee, whose mission is “to advance and disseminate knowledge that will improve the water industry's ability to understand and solve taste and odor problems.” Understanding and solving taste and odor problems requires extensive knowledge in numerous disciplines such as limnology, biology, chemistry, engineering, psychology, sensory science, and others. This variety is reflected in the makeup of the committee, which draws experts from a cross section of professional affiliations (utilities, consultants, government, academia, and industry). Committee members are extremely knowledgeable in this field and are aware of the issues facing the drinking water industry.
