Smart Solid Electrolyte Materials in Energy Storage Devices
Batteries
In the past few decades, Li‐ion‐based conducting solid electrolytes have gained much attention from researchers around the globe to design, develop, and implement high‐energy density Li‐ion batteries, electrochemical sensors, and supercapacitors that are extensively used in the versatile areas of energy storage and transportation. For this purpose, stable, highly ion‐conductive, and lightweight solid electrolyte materials as an ionic transportation medium in the energy storage devices play a very important role to fabricate the lightweight, portable, and flexible electronic gadgets that further make daily human life easy. Therefore, by considering the aforementioned items, we have comprehensively outlined the different types of solid electrolyte materials such as solid polymer electrolytes, non‐oxide solid electrolytes that are based on polymer and glass, oxide‐type solid‐state electrolytes (inorganic solid electrolytes), and quasi‐solid‐state electrolytes that are widely used in the current battery technologies and have also discussed the fundamental advantages and disadvantages of these electrolytes as per the current demand of energy storage devices. The book chapter also covers all fundamental aspects of the solid electrolyte materials as per the current scenario and also lines up the future of the battery technology by utilizing these electrolyte materials.
