Towards Enterprise Architecture Using Solution Architecture Models
The Enterprise Architecture (EA) discipline, although more than 15 years old is still uncertain in its application in real world enterprises. This chapter focuses on an issue of development of a baseline Enterprise Architecture for a large company. There are many EA frameworks, methods and tools but the EA practice still has areas that are not as formalized as practitioners would expect. These considerations let authors to make a conclusion that a baseline Enterprise Architecture can be built automatically from Solution Architecture models data within an integrated modelling tool. A new method of baseline Enterprise Architecture modelling using Solution Architecture models is outlined in detail. Finally, the chapter stated the theses that an Enterprise Architecture may be created using Solution Architecture models despite the differences between the two disciplines.
