Evaluation of a Single‐Step Bacterial Pollution Monitor
[This article, prepared by members of the Millipore Corp. staff, describes new techniques for bacterial testing that in the opinion of the editorial reviewers, would be of significant interest to readers. Its pubiication in no way implies AWWA endorsement of the equipment or methods described in the article.] A new bacteria fester1 designed for monitoring bacterial Pollution levels was compared with Standard membrane and MPN methods in tests on a variety of water samples. The fester, which is a self‐con‐tained filtration unit, nutrient supply, and incubation Chamber, when immersed in water, samples a 1‐ml aliquot and provides selective nutrient for colony growth. Evaluation of the comparative data indicated that the new test method achieved equivalent results, within Statistical variance, in all waters tested.
