This article discusses water resources in the United Kingdom, particularly in England and Wales, and the current trend of dividing the old regime from the new order now being ushered in through the passing of the Water Resources Act of 1963. This legislation, the most advanced of its kind in the world, brings every water use in every river basin under a new controlling body, the river authority, which is responsible for all withdrawals in the area whether domestic, industrial, or agricultural.
