In‐place relining of rusted water mains restored aesthetically high‐quality water.
Water District No. 1 of Johnson County, Kan., rehabilitated sections of unlined cast‐iron pipe installed in the 1940s. Customers complained to the district about rusty water delivered to their homes. After two options were investigated, the cast‐iron pipes and fittings were cleaned and lined in place with cement mortar. The water district and the customers that it serves are both pleased with the result: elimination of rusty water at a reasonable cost.
