Experience With Chlorine Dioxide in Brussels: Generation of Chlorine Dioxide
The yield of chlorine dioxide (ClO2) is influenced by chemical conditions (e.g., initial chlorine concentration, alkalinity) and by reactor design (e.g., detention time, method for mixing chemicals). This article describes the design and operation of C1O2‐generating systems used by the Brussels' Intercommunal Waterboard. Improved reactor designs have increased C1O2 yields from 65–80 percent to >95 percent of the theoretical yield.
