Effect of Watershed Area Oil Fields on Water Quality
This article discusses a study on the increasing salinity of Cross Lake, part of a drainage area located across the Texas‐Louisiana border that contains two important oil fields, the Greenwood‐Waskom and Longwood fields in Louisiana, and the Waskom and Longwood fields in Texas. Study results indicate that the lake has become ten times more salty since the widespread production of oil in these fields, and the resulting pollution of the tributaries by uncontrolled brines.
