Cengiz Bektas and the Community of Kuzguncuk in Istanbul
10.1002/ad.135.abs
Situated on the slopes of the Bosporus, Kuzguncuk is a historic suburban area of Istanbul made up of traditional Ottoman houses mixed with 20th‐century apartments and terraces, though retaining the Ottoman street and block topography. Encompassing Muslim, Jewish and Christian Orthodox communities, it is a microcosm of what Istanbul has to offer. English architect David Height, who had the opportunity to work for Cengiz Bektas for a year in his studio in Kuzguncuk, describes Bektas's role in the regeneration of the area.
