Reversible Charging from Electric Vehicles to Grids and Buildings
This chapter introduces the different configurations for reversible charging of electric vehicles (EVs). Given the large numbers of vehicles disseminated across the electric grid, an aggregator is required. This new role provides an interface between EV owners and electric grid operators. The chapter also describes the potential services and energy management needs of an EV fleet interacting with an electricity distribution grid. It shows a range of services which a vehicle to grid fleet may supply to the electricity system (transmission system operators and distribution system operators), to consumers and to renewable energy producers. The chapter shows the imposed constraints in terms of available power and service duration, along with an estimation of the number of reversible charge EVs required and maximum geographical distribution. It develops an energy supervisor based on fuzzy logic. The chapter further discusses the contribution of reversible charging of EVs in the context of a railway station.
