On May 19, 1994, the Senate passed S. 2019, which would reauthorize the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). Originally introduced by Senator Max Baucus (D‐Mont.) as S. 1547, the bill that was voted on as S. 2019 brought to a close a long and difficult process in the Senate to pass an SDWA bill. A review of the Senate proceedings leading to passage of S. 2019 is available; this review summarizes the content of the bill.
