Peripatetic Infrastructure
Creating public works of quality and delight in the current economic climate requires unstinting commitment and astuteness on the part of the architect. Jonathan Kirschenfeld describes how he landed the project of designing a floating public swimming baths for New York City through serendipity and then hauled it in through pure determination. Likewise, it was only through immersing himself in ‘the murky world of real estate’ and collecting vacant sites from brokers, while performing zoning analyses and schematic designs, that he put his practice in line for supportive housing commissions.
