Applications of X‐Ray Computed Tomography (CT) in Engineering Geology
The outlined study presents two applications of x‐ray computed tomography (CT) in engineering geology. In the first application soil samples taken by drilling and classified by the prEN ISO 22475‐1 as “undisturbed” were analysed to validate the structure of the soil cores. The results of these investigations show the restricted quality due to the shortening of the core length and illustrate and quantify the deformations and compression within the scanned samples. The second application of the CT analysis is related to geotechnical investigations on waste incineration slag. The image analyses show that the spatial distribution of the pore volume varies highly within a sample produced by compaction tests. Both applications are examples of promising results of CT analyses in engineering geology.
