De‐carbonisation
This chapter discusses building energy performance to gain an understanding and benchmark the existing building systems. To improving the current building performance levels, Zero Energy Building (ZEB) and Zero Carbon Building (ZCB) are becoming a globally popular concept and design trend. De‐carbonisation is the ultimate goal of one of the strategies for creating a climate neutral community. ZCB should have included the idea of renewable energy application at the early design stage. Large‐scale renewable development plays an important role in the de‐carbonisation process as they are more efficient and cost effective. De‐carbonisation of a city or making a sustainable city is more than just green buildings; energy, transportation, safety and security, the natural environment, people, and culture are also very important aspects that need to be included. Cities are required to be smart and resilient to external risks and must be responsive to the people's needs beyond just using eco‐focused technologies.
