A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Professional Life
This chapter discusses architecture as profession, ethics, and professional conduct of an architect, the career paths of an architect, the need to develop leadership and communication skills through surveys of varied firms. The chapter also discusses the role of architects of serving their community and participation in professional development organizations. Creativity is crucial to all professions, but for the architect it is of the highest priority. Moreover, architects produce objects that are fixed in space, highly public, and generally long‐lasting. The well‐being of the architectural profession depends upon ties to a healthy building industry. The level of construction activity both nationally and internationally significantly determines the amount and type of services architects will render. Architecture is a profession in which design capability and originality is prized. Intellectual property is the most common proof of worth in terms of talent and experience. The regulation of architects, for which the overarching purpose is to protect the public health, safety, and welfare, is a complex world, covering many aspects of individual and corporate practice.
