Recommended Practice for Backflow Prevention and Cross‐Connection Control: Joint Committee Report
This article presents the AWWA Joint Committee Report on Recommended Practice for Backflow Prevention and Cross‐Connection Control. This manual is intended to supplement, not supersede, local laws and regulations. The purpose of this manual is to provide water purveyors and other persons responsible for public potable water supply systems with a guide to procedures for the following: protecting water supplies against contamination or pollution resulting from backflow of objectionable fluids through cross connections; protecting these supplies at the service connection by isolating within the consumer's premises pollution or contamination that may result from backflow through cross connections; and, providing the means whereby an industrial consumer may utilize a separate system for his industrial uses in order to prevent possible pollution or contamination of his internal potable water system.
