Techniques and Economics of Calcining Softening Sludges: Joint Discussion
This joint discussion on the techniques and economics of calcining softening sludges consists of two papers: Calcination Techniques, by William B. Crow; and, Miami Lime Recovery Plant, by Claude F. Wertz. The first paper discusses recalcination of softening plant sludge including the economics of calcination, existing installations, rotary‐kiln process, pellet‐seeding calciner, and the Gainesville Plant. The second paper discusses a Miami lime recovery plant, including the construction of the plant, thickening of sludge, dewatering of sludge, rotary kiln, stack gas scrubber, carbon dioxide reuse, central controls, lime transport and storage, and operating statistics.
