Regional Authorities Support Small Water Systems in the Americas
This article describes the progressive steps that water and sanitation authorities in Latin America have carried out, beginning in the 1950s and extending to the present, to implement the goal of providing these basic services for all. As water sector programs are realized for smaller villages and dispersed populations, regional authorities are integrating their institutional activities to support such programs. This institutional experience in providing public water supplies for the Americas could be transferred to guide water projects in other regions of the world, as countries in Asia and Africa extend these services to smaller communities.
