Present and Future of Stray Traction Current Problems in the United States
The transition from old street railway systems to new subway or surface rapid transit lines offers the opportunity for the reduction of stray current damage to underground structures. For this to happen, the traction system must be carefully designed to minimize stray earth currents. The owners of underground utilities must adjust their systems to compensate for the new conditions. The coordination of activities through appropriate committees and the use of sound engineering methods can simplify the realization of minimal corrosion conditions.
