Built‐Up Compression Members
Built‐up members offer the high value of the load‐carrying capacity by combining suitably slender isolated members. The behaviour of compound struts is introduced with reference to laced members, struts with batten plates and buttoned struts. Attention is paid to the influence of shear deformability on the overall member performance and design in accordance with EU and US approaches is presented. Worked examples are related to a battened built‐up member and a closely‐spaced built‐up member.
